What Landlords and Property Managers Actually Check
Based on our experience cleaning hundreds of homes for move outs in the Raleigh area, here's where landlords and property managers look most closely:
Inside the oven — the number one thing most renters forget
Bathrooms — grout, shower walls, behind the toilet
Cabinet interiors — especially kitchen cabinets
Baseboards — a dead giveaway of a rushed clean
Appliance interiors — refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave
Window tracks — often overlooked, always noticed
Closet floors and shelves — dust and debris accumulate here
Light fixtures and ceiling fans — dust buildup is visible
DIY vs. Hiring a Professional
You can absolutely do a move out clean yourself. But here's the reality:
Time: A thorough move out clean on a 3 bedroom home takes 8 to 12 hours for one person
Equipment: Professionals bring commercial grade products and equipment
Stress: You're already dealing with the stress of moving. Adding a full day of cleaning makes it worse
Deposit: If the landlord finds issues, your deposit deduction could cost more than hiring a professional would have
Most professional move out cleaning services in Raleigh cost $250 to $500 depending on home size. Compare that to a typical security deposit of $1,000 to $2,000 or more, and the math makes sense.
